Unless statements are backed by facts, then please remember they are just opinions. Feel free to make your point if your opinion differs, but with the same courtesy you would expect from others. If you put forward a strong opinion, be prepared to be challenged!

This site is here for people to learn and share knowledge, so if you're correcting someone's facts, please be polite. If you strongly disagree with a statement then please support your argument with the reasoning behind it.

Bear in mind that personal attacks are not in the spirit of this website. Any such postings will be removed by the moderators.

To help prevent misinterpretation of the feelings behind the written word, some useful abbreviations are....

IMHO- In My Humble Opinion
IIRC - If I Recall Correctly
IIUC - If I Understand Correctly
AFAIK - As Far As I Know

Adult discussions are expected, this means mature not adult orientated. A certain level of banter and strong argument is to be expected and parents should expect this. However profanity is strictly unacceptable. Pre 9pm TV should be the standard

there are to be no personal attacks. Full stop. Attack the argument, not the person. Do not hide a personal attack behind smilies and call it banter

If you feel you are being attacked, do not respond but bring the matter to the attention of a moderator via PM, or discuss it by PM with the individual concerned.

Verbal bullying will not be accepted; neither will tantrums, childish arguments, name-calling or long-winded resignation speeches. The correct procedure for resigning is to close your browser.

We will not tolerate posts that seek to marginalise or denigrate whole sections of society based on gender, race, nationality, sexuality or any other arbitary factor, we hope that you all share our values in this regard, if you don't please do not espouse those views here, the internet is a big place you'll easily find somewhere more attuned to your views.

Moderators are human, and in most cases volunteers, if you have a complaint we will attempt to resolve it amicably and fairly.

Nothing on here is worth falling out over.

Please could all members note that the posting guidlines have been updated to include standards which have already been published elsewhere on the site

This is not a change in the site rules, simply a way to ensure that appropriate information is held in one area.

It would be helpful if all members could remind themselves of the standards expected.

Thanks.

In order to maintain a pleasant, productive environment in which all members of the forum feel comfortable, we ask that all posters review the site guidelines above, and with particular reference to the following points.

Do not make personal comments about other forum members.

Do not refer to old threads if they are not relevant to to the present one.

The following changes have been made to the site guidlines and moderation procedures with immediate effect.

Should a thread become unacceptably aggressive the moderators will take the following action.

1 A warning will be issued in the thread, warning the participants to cool off

2 A personal warning will be sent to individuals who do not respond to the first warning

3 Individuals will have their forum membership locked for 48 hours in the first instance.

If you notice a thread which you think requires moderation please look at the top of the section index for the list of mods and PM them. Preferably one who is on line at the time.
