Not sure if anyone would be interested in this. We need to sell my inlaws cottage, on the Welsh borders and edge of Shropshire Hills AONB http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-38000837.html?premiumA=true and I am told that the property is being let down by its rather unkempt garden.

Is there anyone who loves gardening who might be interested in a gardening holiday in this lovely area?

Unfortunately my inlaws were never able to complete their move to the cottage due to my father-in-law becoming very ill prior to moving and being left with disabilities, hence although we have tackled some of the work to the house we really could do with some help with the garden so am just exploring this possible opportunity.

PM me if interested the cottage is available now!!

It looks a lovely place and perhaps someone who is considering moving could use this as a trial run. Personally I wouldn't be put off by what looks like a lovely garden but some people get put off by a carpet colour they don't like.

Thanks for your reply Catherine, could certainly offer a weeks trial to any viewers...but they are few and far between atm!! Hence wondering about offering the gardening holiday as am being told the garden needs to be in better order!! Although I actually think for most people interested in this type of property getting the garden how they want it would be a pleasant project, but guess it doesn't look so good on pictures on the advert!

Know what you mean by being put of by carpet colour too, plenty of people have suggested the property needs dressing and brand new kitchen etc to sell, but again that is all down to individual taste so thinking it is best to offer it as a reasonably blank canvas.

Will see if anyone is interested anyway, and if anyone can suggest good places to post this offer please let me know!

thanks

Ohh excellent Hairyloon!! The house or the garden??

The house has 2 double bedrooms, double reception - ie lounge/dining room, decent sized kitchen etc
The garden is nice size not massive, small lawn area (which is a bit rough) with patio by the brook, overgrown hedge which is encroaching into the garden, not sure that you can do too much about this at this time of year though. although ideally it could do with taking back and a border establishing along it possibly. Then allotment sized area with herbs/shrubs/soft fruit bushes etc. Also borders around the house. All the climbers, taller shrubs were cut back by the builders when they did the outside paintwork, so really need to get these borders particularly tidied/planted up and looking nicer. There is a small potting shed that needs a bit of finishing work, panes fitting, if someone wanted to tackle this too.

I should warn that the house is a little on the sparton side, has just been rented for a few months but never moved into by my inlaws. Currently have a double bed, single bed, so may need a camp bed or mattress. Dining table/chairs, and a suite. Will be getting a table top oven and hob. Heating, hotwater, decent bathroom but no shower!!

Let me know what you think

Blacksheep, I can't offer to help with the garden, but I have just had a look at the details and I wonder, rather than selling via a non-local agent you might have more luck putting it on with one of the small firms who knows the local area? I would recommend Morris Marshall and Poole - and I know they do auctions that people looking for rural properties go to.

Harry Ray are a fantastic firm of agnets in the area too. They were so helpful when we bought here. Based in Welshpool.

Thanks for the suggestions, MMP I have heard of and Newtown not too far away. I have never heard of Harry Rae mochyn, so maybe they are a bit too far out of this catchment area.

Have actually had a call from McCartney's this week, they seem extremely keen to take it on, although are adamant we need to ask a bit more(!?). Think I will see what terms can be negotiated with them (any advice on this appreciated!!). I would like to keep it with the online agent as have paid up front for as long as it takes to sell it and they have a much wider internet coverage, but would be good to get it in local papers with a local agent as well as in their branch windows.

Harry Ray is in Welshpool - I agree with Mochyn, they are great, very Old Style and know what they are doing.

Conversely, I would avoid Normal Lloyd like the plague.

Can you have it on with more than one person at once?

I think you can have the property on with more than agent, certainly see multiple signs on properties occassionally, but you do need to pay the agent that gets the sale quite a bit more, added risk for all their advertising costs not being covered if the other agent get the sale I guess.
I think McCartneys have far more local branches than any other agent, which is why I thought they might be the best one to go with if it is just one local agent, any thoughts.

I need to have a good look at Harry Rae website but I have definately not seen any of their signs in this area and if their office is in Welshpool it wouldn't really give such good advertising

An agent will charge you a fee. Maybe a percent, maybe two, but probably somewhere in between. And if you use more than one agent, expect that to double. Who's going to buy it, someone local, or someone from london?

Make sure whoever you use has windows in that location.
