Had some yellowing to brown spots on the leaves of four of our tomato plants (in one big trough) over the weekend. First appeared in Friday, by this morning they looked fairly unhappy. The younger leaves looked happier, but kind of pale.

Classic symptoms of a magnesium deficiency. So I've taken the unusual step of giving them a liquid feed before they've set their first truss.

I've never seen this in tomato before. Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks! Nice pictures.

What's happening on these four plants looks a lot more like the magnesium deficiency picure on this page, only a lot less severe:

Looks a lot more like a nutrient problem than a pathogen or a pest. Not something I've had in toms before.

Think I may be having the same problem with a few of my varieties - The Gardners Delight seem to be fine but a few of the italian types are looking very weedy - I thought this might be because they desperately need potting on but having seem the piccies of Mg defiency - think it is more likely to be that.

Shall give them a bit of a feed to perk them up tonight before some of them go down to my Dads.

Last year I feed them Comfrey but this year we haven't easy access to comfrey until the seeds I've just planted come up.

Actually mine could also be a Nitrogen deficency - anyway a general feed should perk 'em up

Not looked at the links from work but could any of the damage be frost? We've had some cold nights recently. Could it also be sun burn if they've been put out in a greenhouse on a very sunny day?

More likely wind damage; they're currently hardening off, and haven't been out at night yet. Not in a greenhouse either, and although we do get some wind where they've been standing out, nothing else seems to be suffering. So I'm blaming a nutrient deficiency; old leaves being affected first, and away from the veins, so that's likely to be magnesium.

Good that he made it nice and short so that you don't end up needing a 6' wide monitor too.
