I know its a bit gimmicky but a great concept for old people or anyone who has trouble with technology.

I think that's extremely well targeted and bloody good luck to them!

Do you know what! If I had a PC that was not work related, but was just for the operations like browsing and email, then I'd much rather have that than the kind of complexity you get with standard PCs.

I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.

I have just been looking at the latest Ubuntu, it is actually pretty clean on the application front, only about 6 applications at most could be sensibly stripped from the applications menu.

The admin is still a mess Way too much and too obscure.

Anyone know what "IBus" preferences are, when you go there you get asked if you want to start a "Daemon" Sounds scary and you are still no closer to knowing what it even is (yes I do now know).

In fact in Preferences there are 4 options that in one way or another relate to keyboard input, add in the mouse and that is 5 options that could be one.

Network is split into two options.

Display type things into four options.

This is actually better that it once was, there seems to be a lot more clear cut logical divisions than were. No more overlap of functions, but it is still damnable complex.

In case anyone else is thinking, "hang on, is that not just software on a (maybe slightly overpriced) standard PC?"
The answer is yes: http://www.eldy.eu/

My gran, who is fully in charge of her faculties, but has failing sight and a mind that was designed in the 1930's would love a mobile phone like a normal phone. You know, numbers 0-9, and a pick up and cut off button. Quite big, so you could see them. And nothing else. At all. No texts, buzzers, cameras, flashing lights, interweb access, nothing.

Just to allow her to, you know, make calls when she's out and about. If only there were lots of old people about, there could be a market for these devices...

Define "old people"! My 86 yo aunt has a similar-aged friend who bought a computer a few years ago so she could write her memoirs...

Good for PC-phobes of any age, though, and prices seem reasonable.

Oooh! They have "large big buttons" - so much easier to use than small big buttons .
