Don't, just don't. It was presented to me. Fresh off the plane from Peru. I know, ok?

So.

Oven at 180 or so.

Toss asparagus spears, halved chestnuts from a jar, two cloves minced garlic, fresh black pepper and a few flakes of coarse salt in some olive oil.

Roast for six or seven minutes. You're after slightly crunchy asparagus, with sweet nuts, and soft, roast garlic.

Went well with pink lamb chops.

Maybe wait a couple of months and then try it!

The chestnuts are a nice touch.

I love fresh asparagus but unless you grow it yourself how do you get it fresh? Stuff you buy in is usually stringy and 'orrible.

I can usually buy reasonably fresh asparagus from the greengrocer in town. I keep an eye out for deliveries coming in though which isn't necessarily practical for people who don't work next door to a greengrocer.

I think it was Finsky who suggested sticking less-than-perfectly-fresh asparagus into water as though it was cut flowers. That works pretty well too.

And roast/grill it. I've pretty much given up on boiling or steaming.

Bought asparagus completely loses the sweetness of just picked asparagus.

As an aside, I find that freshly picked asparagus does not seem to affect my urine in the same way as shop bought. Far less smelly.

How much space to get a crop worth having?
