This time of year, spouts are everywhere and it occured to me that I've heard of people making wine etc from all sorts of stuff, but never sporuts.

Anyone out there tried this? Maybe we'll find a use for all those left over spouts!!

I've heard of cabbage wine. Do a search for that and you'll find recipes, I'm sure. Can't say that I fancy it myself.

I spray painted some sprouts silver and hung them on the tree one year. Best use I've ever found for them.

Not wine...but on yesterday's Ready Steady Cook (oh the joys of Christmas holidays) they had sprouts in most of the dishes by one person. Recipes are usually on line, might be worth a look. They did a soup which I suppose you could add some vodka to, and serve people in the dark, telling them its a hot seasonal cocktail...

I try to like them.

Still can't beat sprout soup

Chicken (or any other stock)
fry onions, caroots etc
add sprouts and stock
cook until sprouts have a bite
whizz up in a blender

Voila!!!

Sprouts are good in lamb curry, cut in half and add for the last 20-30 minutes of cooking, let them get quite mushy.

Finely shredded and raw for a salad is good too.

Might try the wine idea, since the watercress wine experiment seems to be working quite well............
