Just a quick reminder to those with the Saffron bulbs, they should be starting to flower about now. They only open for a day or so and are loved by slugs so keep checking them. If it's wet outside I tend to pick the whole flower and leave them indoors for a while to open. Interestingly the ones I left in the ground have started to flower on exactly the same day as last year but I planted most of my bulbs late this year and they're yet to put in an appearance.

And another reminder for this year, ours have just started flowering again.

Talking of saffron, someone gave me a small packet of Carmencita brand saffron a while ago. I shan't use it and have no idea if it's quality stuff or not, but if anyone wants it please PM me and I'll pop it in the post.

Not sure I'll have time to comit to doing it this year, so if anyone else wants to take up the baton, please feel free.

We got some from a different supplier and have grown them for several years now and get a harvest if we look after them. The bulbs are very prolific at making new bulbs rather than producing flowers even when we follow the correct planting instructions. Sadly we lost most of them to mice when we stored them in the shed. Still, we have enough to grow them on.

Four years later, does anyone still have any? Any tips? Any use?
I'm thinking of underplanting the fruit bushes with them perhaps?
