And yes it should be added to the links - I've got a whole lot to add (hmm, and the possibility of a day off tomorrow? Depends on the weather - nice day, and I'm off to the plot instead.)

Here's a photo I've just taken of a couple of our resident slow worms. The one on the left is about 10 inches long.
They are very useful in the garden and totally harmless. |

Damn. I wasn't even close
I spent a happy afternoon digging into solid clay in Chilwell recently.
Shame the soil on the plot is so clayish. A pal of mine had one down in Beeston Rylands, had fantastic soil, as you'd expect on a flood plain. |
