I've got a short grain brown rice risotto like thing in mine at the moment - see what it's like when i get home! Left over turkey (from Christmas although I did freeze it!) some veg cut nice and small, rice and stock and a couple of bay's - husband under instructions to add parsley when he gets home since I'm doing parents evening.

I made a spicy chick-pea and vegetable stew in my new slow-cooker today. I was very pleased with it as a first go. I'm really looking forward to trying it with meat though - must try and get a bunny from the Farmer's Market this month...

New (small size) slow cooker in this household too - it was only in the door for 10 mins before it was pressed into service - casserole has been brewing for 30 hours now and smells divine.

Where's the 'rubs tummy' icon?

well it was in use again today with a lamb stew in it using left over lamb from monday, I had a nice meaty shepards pie from it yesterday and there will e enough for a bolagnaise on friday as we are out tomorrow, so 1 leg of lamb has done 8 or 10 meals, depending on how much stew I get through tonight

Did you do the shepherds pie in your slow cooker?

unfortunatly no I needed the oven to crisp up the potato but I just chopped up a bit of the meat added some gravy and some cooked diced veg so it was ready in 15 mins.
If I had thought about it I could of had the stew yesterday and then just put a potato top on the left overs for the pie today but thats life

Now there's an interesting challenge - how many meals can you get out of a joint of beef/lamb/pork .....

Well I never - there's a slow cooker sitting looking at me in the kitchen On loan, but I don't think she wants it back!

There's a nice shoulder of lamb in the fridge too .. can I start it tonight and just leave it running until tomorrow?

Eventually, I gave in - couldn't resist the thread - have bought a 6.5L, delivery next Tuesday or so.

Any tips for an in print recipe book, or do you all just make up your own?

Mmmmm, slow cooked pheasant with red wine, ginger and garlic .... mmmmmmmm. Served with mashed pots and cabbage. Just what you need to come home to on a frosty evening. And the smell when we came home was scrumptious. Even Jody liked it Though when Steve asked him if he liked the pheasant he said "what pheasant"

Have purchased, on the recommendation of the man in the cookbook shop, (we have a shop in Cheltenham called Cooking The Books - I try not to visit too often ), Ultimate Slow Cooker by Sara Lewis, which I intend to cook my way through!
