Impressive though.
And in case there is any doubt, that is not me: I've got a big saw.

Looks like he's in training for the Darwin Awards. One to keep an eye on for 2011, I feel!

I especially liked the use of appropriate safety gear. Baggy tracksuit from the late 70's and a Christmas jumper.

Depends whether or not you want some big beautiful timber.
I suspect the job was a lot safer and more controlled than at first it looks. It is very rare that a tree falls quickly without warning, and it is surprising how little wood can hold up a big tree.
Not sure I'd want to do it like that though.

Glad i'm not the only one.

Though you do get trees that randomly drop limbs which are very dangerous, the wood looked fine but i wondered whether they did drill a small hole in to check the inner wood wasnt rotten.

Bizzare choice of music too.

He had no control where that tree was going to fall, a gust of wind and it could have gone any where. I dont think he would have tried that if there had been buildings or power cables around.

With just a set of stills, you don't know if there was a bit that involved rapid running away. Also - don't falling trees have the tendency to "kick back" and the bottom of the trunk comes back towards you?

With a tree that big there should always be a bit of rapid running away.

Not normally but yes it can happen.

If you pause it at 2.50 you can see he has reduced the diameter of the tree & then done some normal felling cuts. The tree also had a natural lean & he felled it in that direction.
