Impressive though.
And in case there is any doubt, that is not me: I've got a big saw. |

Looks like he's in training for the Darwin Awards. One to keep an eye on for 2011, I feel! |

I especially liked the use of appropriate safety gear. Baggy tracksuit from the late 70's and a Christmas jumper. |

Depends whether or not you want some big beautiful timber.
I suspect the job was a lot safer and more controlled than at first it looks. It is very rare that a tree falls quickly without warning, and it is surprising how little wood can hold up a big tree.
Not sure I'd want to do it like that though. |

Glad i'm not the only one.
Though you do get trees that randomly drop limbs which are very dangerous, the wood looked fine but i wondered whether they did drill a small hole in to check the inner wood wasnt rotten.
Bizzare choice of music too. |

He had no control where that tree was going to fall, a gust of wind and it could have gone any where. I dont think he would have tried that if there had been buildings or power cables around. |

With just a set of stills, you don't know if there was a bit that involved rapid running away. Also - don't falling trees have the tendency to "kick back" and the bottom of the trunk comes back towards you? |

With a tree that big there should always be a bit of rapid running away. |

Not normally but yes it can happen.
If you pause it at 2.50 you can see he has reduced the diameter of the tree & then done some normal felling cuts. The tree also had a natural lean & he felled it in that direction. |
