I am sat here surrounded by bottles of beer. About 160 to be precise. Don't worry, I'm not contemplating drinking them. Thing is I just worked out the cost per bottle - about 50c

Each bottle holds just over a pint for which the local bars here would charge four euros (standard rate for lager) or 2€ for a half.

It takes me one day each week to do the work - cleaning, sterilizing, brewing, cleaning .... and at least four weeks for it to mature, so with a production line in place, a good supply of real ale is always assured.

So I just got to thinking, what if ...?

yeh micro brewing works for some folk and drinking good mistakes is a bonus

I'm sure there'll be a form to fill in, oh you're in France, many forms to apply for forms for insurances and certificates and inspections and permissions and the mayor's wife wants a new hat....

Mayors' wives need (nay, demand!) more than a new hat these days. I say dont think about it, do it!

I think he was suggesting to a small scale commercial venture supplying the local bars. The French are bound to have a Govt ministry for such a thing.

More I think about this the more I like it. Done 4 batches this month and to be fair 2 weren't as good as the other 2. I may start putting the good stuff down in the cellar and open the doors to the public once I have a good stock down there. It will only ever be a hobby brewery but I wouldn't want more than that.

What sort of quantities are you looking for? You are perhaps better off talking to small established brewers than here. AFAIK, there is nobody here that produces beer commercially. I expect we can recommend a few though...

I know a family in the Aveyron that have their own brewing business...I've tasted their stuff & it's good (but I'm easy pleased) They do three types of bottled beer, not just the girly lager-type stuff I can get their details to you if you wish They are French, but despite this major obstacle, they brew good beer
