I'm in Guernsey (and I only just saw this!). Do they do mail order by any chance?

Yes, but blinking expensive and the woman speaks her French very quickly, almost aggressively. I'll dig out her contact details if yout're interested.

Where in France? Just wondering if we might be able to help courrier it to this country ... and then someone else get it to you?

We did look at this, Rosie contacted the nursery for me, the only trees they had were quite large and way outside my price range, even without shipping costs

Shame. Could've been quite fun! Especially as we go down with a van full of stuff from time to time ... and come back empty!

Hmmm. These seem like the sort of thing you'd be best of starting with a pretty small specimen of rather than anything huge (which is, to be fair, my stock approach to all conifers). I'm sure one'll turn up somewhere sooner or later though.

Yup, have asked a landscaping company I know if they'll hunt around for me.

bumping this because at the weekend I saw this...

...absolute beast of a Torreya californica flourishing in the Sir Harold Hillier Gardens down in Hampshire. Huge (first thought was it was one of the bigger Abies species), no obvious signs of nuts but the place is loaded with squirrels so who knows. Tahir, might be worth giving them a call and seeing if they'll post you some cuttings.

PS - growing between two other trees and no good angle for a mobile phone piccy unfortunately.
PPS - couple of other interesting edibles there which I may put a new thread up on when all is downloaded.
