Somehow I have managed to lose the battery charger for my cordless drill. I've had a good look for it in all the likely places but its vanished.

Its a Black and Decker EPC12 drill with a torch using the same battery pack and it works fine for what I want. I've swapped the battery pack from the torch to the drill but its going to run out of power soon and then it will be useless

I've contacted Black and Decker, but if it proves too costly or unavailable is there a DIY option to charge the batteries (they are 12v)?
can I just wire it up to a 12v car/leisure battery for example?

I think you would knacker the batteries using an ordinary 12v charger. My Bosch chargers monitor the battery condition while charging and knock off when the charge is complete, or if problems are detected.
A 12v charger is for charging an auto battery of say 80Ah, your drill batteries are probably 1.3Ah, possible firework scenario. Maybe someone with more knowledge than me will shoot me down in flames, I'm always willing to learn! There are big differences between lead acid batteries and NiCd or NiMh batteries and more again to Lithium.

I ordered a new battery from these folks some time ago and everything was ok.

Found it It was hiding behind the recipe books next to the toaster in one of the darker corners of the kitchen Our kitchen is barely 8x8 feet square - so it must have been a resourceful gremlin what hid it. Thanks for the tips in where to get spares though - at least when I lose bits of the drill 'properly' I will know where toget replacements.

Luckily I was broke at the time - if i'd have had the money I would have sent off for it (must be one of the few times it pays to be poor).
