I think the truth (albeit maybe a bit uncomfortable) is the best way. Back it up with by saying you don't want to drive all that way and the fact that these chooks are likely to start dying and/or needing vets soon and you think it is kinder to end their lives now. |

In my experience, the older the bird the worse they get stressed over changes which in turn depresses their immune system making them susceptible to all sorts of nasties.
You could add that to the list of reasons why you're not taking them 50 miles at anyone's expense of time or money, or, seeing as (again ime) bunny huggers cannot be taught anything that has any bearing on something they have already made their minds up about, you could just forget about them and do what you were about to do anyway.
If the intermediary friend is that bothered, how come she isn't wasting time and petrol on rehoming them?  |
