Marsh Samphire - Where can I find Dorset, Devon or Cornwall

I guys Im very new to this forum, infact this is my first post here.
Im very interested in foraging and have done a very small amount before and wish to learn more.

Im going on a camper trip next week and will be doing some fishing and wish to find some good foraged food to go with my Mackerel and wish to find some Marsh Samphire. Does anyone know of any spots around either Dorset, Devon or Cornwall that it grows? Particular locations and or a google map link to the whereabouts would be really appreciated.

Thank you for the Welcome Sean. Really glad to find this place. Seems great. I am a member of a few forums. EG Fishing and VW Campervans and have been on the look out for a good Foraging forum and signed up to a few but not much action on them. This looks like it has some good members so looking forward to it

PS out of interest does this forum use Tapatalk iPhone/iPad app? Just I use it on my other forums and be good to keep them all in one place.

Hello and welcome.
Don't know anywhere to find samphire, but just a thought have you tried looking/asking on the River Cottage website as it is down that way?!

Wow this is an active forum. Great to see. Thank you for the info's.
Even if its not the best time to pick would be great to build a database in my head or locations where I could find.

Want to forage to go with my Mackerel I will be catching

Rock samphire is more common than marsh samphire and tastes great with mackerel too. Keep your eyes out while walking on rocky beaches and you are very likely to find it. We found quite a lot of it in cornwall. Can't remember exactly where though it was in the Looe area if that helps. It might be a bit late for that too though mightn't it....Maybe not. I remember picking it this time of the year a couple of years ago. Can't remember whether it was edible or not though!

You'll find it around most mud flats of esturies at low tide in the south. e.g. in Dorset it is in the Fleet at the Weymouth end also in Axe estury. You'll find its common if you look in the correct environment.

I know there's rock samphire at the beach below Menabilly Barton, between Par & Fowey on the South coast of Cornwall.
Beautiful beach, clean water (no sewerage outfalls nearby) & loads of large deep rock pools at low tide, so good for shellfish & crustaceans as well.
I've never found any marsh samphire, but one place that might be fruitful is the upper tidal reaches of the Fal between Tresilian & Truro.
& Welcome to the forum from me too.
