Oldish Chris, I've heard of that idea before with the kitchen foil. Would it be an alternative idea to put the plants in front of a north facing window, there is still light but less intense and it my reduce the leggy growth-maybe worth an experiment? |
Its worth an experiment, but bare in mind: glass stops quite a bit of light, windows are only bright when the sun shines directly on them, and we aren't quite at the equinox - the sun isn't very strong at the moment. My foil-backed propagator is in a south facing bay, and my very early tomatoes are rather leggy.
If the best place that I had was a north facing window, I'd supplement the light with artificial lighting. A snippet of info I picked up from the New Scientist suggests that, technology-wise, the cannabis growers are in the lead, followed by the orchid growers. Hairyloon's comment about transferable technology is spot on. Don't worry, a 35 watt heater and a 60 watt light aren't going to attract the attention of the authorities. |
