On the lawn, not on my skin.
Whilst I appreciate the vast quantaties of potting compost being generated, I fear for the stability of my garden.
I am thinking chili powder. Good idea?

i know they are a pain in a lawn but i rather like them.the one under my tent in dpack corner managed to move me in a rather nice chair

re anti mole measures the traps work ,the choking smoke firework things are horrible and leave a tunnel network for the next resident.

if i recall there are little machines that make the right sort of noise to disrupt them finding worms and they are supposed to move on but i have no idea if they really work.

if you really must get rid traps are what golf club green keepers use

They keep burrowing under my young fruit trees and in the polytunnel too. I'm assuming they can't read, so signs are out.

Traps sound more 'humane' but once you've trapped them what do you do?
Bearing in mind I'm a whimp

the traps are an instant kill type of a scissor action type so compost or as the skins are rather nice soil resistant gaiters for digging.

Didn't realise the traps killed them too. This life is too rough for us sensitive types.

Gaiters? You must need a few! The sick one we found was only little (and very cute. I don't think I could knock one on the head!) perhaps it was just a baby.

I have a very vague recollection that Pippa Greenwood or Gay Search recommended putting one if those singing greetings cards down the burrow to deter them. No idea if it works, but possibly worth a try?

Don't know if this will work for moles but it does work for the significantly, very significantly larger ground hogs, aka woodchucks.

Take the solid bits from a cat's litter pan and dump down the tunnels. Repeat as necessary.

Makes then think that something that might eat them is down the tunnel.

Just use the loose fine soil in your pots and hope they'll move on.

Trapping is pretty much the only effective method of control.

Good info on trapping here

There are one or two smelly things you can put down the tunnels to deter them, but afraid if you have deep loam soil and lots of worms you will tend to get moles. We don't have them as we have solid chalk not far below the surface and it blunts their claws.

Sadly, I think traps are the most effective way.

Traps every time as the smellies are a temporary reprieve. They go away and wait for the smell to go and come back. Gone are the days of real mole skin waistcoats and trousers when they had value.

That's pure evil - Cliff Richard singing congratulations over and over again - and no escape
Surely that's banned under the Geneva Convention?

I'm beginning to see the mole as a victim now...

What are the odds of the little beggars just moving on?
I don't fancy the nasty options much.
