very interesting. of course, you just can't tell people news they dont want to hear. i recall in the early eighties the sceptics said the ozone layer is self sustaining, and a hole could never develop. then when a hole was found they said it had probably always been there, we just never noticed it before. when it was shown to be getting bigger, they said it was probably due to something else - not man. they have said global warming doesn't exist. show them evidence that the ice caps are melting, and they blame it on termites burping or cows farting - nothing man does can make the slightest difference.

you will never convince an eco-sceptic. but if enough people with sense become convinced, then maybe we can show governments that global warming can be bad for the economy - that'll make a difference.

Just as well the US (and Sweden) had already pledged to phase out CFCs at that point. Unlike dear old Blighty, which didn't get around to it until 1988ish...
