'Terms & Conditions'

With the help of the ever wonderful Vegplot, we think we've found a new online shop template that will work for me and I'm just starting to set up the background bits. Its got a tickbox function that requires a customer to agree to the terms and conditions unconditionally before checking out, and I need to make sure that the text I put in for that bit is short- so people actually read it, and sensible, so there is no reason why anyone wouldn't agree with them. I might try and remove the word unconditionally though, it makes it sound a bit scary, and just agreeing to them should mean the same thing

In the past I've ended up with rather fluffy statements about everyone being nice to each other and us making sure you are happy with your order, but clearly I need to do better than that.

Essentially, it needs to say something to the effect of 'all goods are ours until you have paid for them, remember some things are made to order so won't ship straight away, and anything you aren't happy with we'll put right without fuss', is there anything else that really must be there?

Anything about returns/postage costs?

good point, I think they are covered under a shipping and returns section though.

Ok, so I could get rid of the forced tick box thing then, and keep it simple? I'd rather not force people to tick things if they don't need to, and the law covers most eventualities as you say

I think Distance Selling Regs tells you and your customers what happens if your stuff needs to come back, including timescales and who pays for what, and who is responsible at what point.

If you wish to extend these, you can do, for example, if you're happy to exchange stuff because they've changed their mind, after a certain time, or for custom made stuff, or whatever, you can do.

Distance selling regs are a little ambiguous on some matters, so it is better to set things out clearly.
Also people can forget where DSR doesn't apply for bespoke goods: perhaps make that clear also.
