.pif dodgy emails seem on the rise

Don't know how general this is, but I seem to be getting a lot more emails with attachments like "yourbill.pif" Sad

So I thought i'd remind people that a ".pif" attachment is 99.99% certain to be something nasty.

Haven't had any of those, yet. I got my first piece of spam to my downsizer address this morning. Confused

Spam is a bugger, I have just had to "blackhole" all unrouted mail to marsjupiter as suddenly it is attracting spam to random non existant names there Sad

If you get spam to a non existant name is the best aaproach to mail back the Unsubscribe option if there is one, or to ignore it totally?

I'm leaving everything at the mo- just curious.

My understanding is to bin it. If you click on a link, even one labelled 'unsubscribe' then they know it's a valid address.

Absoluetly.

Also you should never download pictures in spam emails. Often these will be downloaded from a server that will then know that the address is legit.

Great, thanks!

Wise point. But note that "downloading pictures" has to be specifically turned OFF, otherwise they'll be taken automagically.
And because the "picture" might be only a single dot, you'd probably never know it was there...
Such things were known as "web bugs" and Google should turn up more than you would want to know!

Definately a sage piece of advice. In fact good advice all round.

If you haven't asked for it, don't read it, just bin it! I also add stuff to my Junk Mail filter and every week or so delete the lot.
