Don't worry, farting about instead of getting on with a task is not a purely welsh trait. I'm supposed to be sorting out a brooder for the chicks that are hatching in the incubator as we speak, but I'm mucking about on here instead.

I think it's a celtic trait, we tend to do things 'dreckly' down here in Kernow Laughing

Never kept ducks so this may well be complete rubbish.

If you brought back one of her old mates in a big cage, do you think that would lure her over?

Cats Protection League have cat catching cages I once used (for cats). So thinking of that design, wondering if you set up one of those, with the closed end against the old mates cage, plus food in it, just maybe she'd walk into the trap?
Outside chance CPL might lend you a cage. Or there is the RSPCA as a possible source of useful things for catching animals.

Otherwise old sheet - light, large area, toss it over the duck. If windy use something like wooden pegs to weight the far side and ideally toss it downwind. Tea towels work on budgies, so scaling up for ducks. Very Happy
Then you have to carefully locate the worried bit under the cloth, tuck cloth under it and lift up bagged bird.

no luck this morning Crying or Very sad

I can sympathbise; I need to catch 4 young muscovies at some point very soon to clip their wings... However, you're making me laugh Helen...

I am now being refered to as the "crazy duck lady" by our regulars and my early morning jaunts to the lake with my pet box and a loaf of bread is gathering quite a following Rolling Eyes and "Florence" as she is named is getting wise. she knows I am after her and will only come over if I have some yummy bread...she turns her beak up at the poultry feed. Fills her belly just out of arms reach and then waddles off at high speed back to the lake mocking me Embarassed

What about a large net-thingy?

Try some pancakes, hoisin sauce and cucumber. For some reason they go really well together
