5p per kwhI heard yesterday the government were going to provide an incentive to small scale renewable energy suppliers who'll be able to sell their excess power back to the grid at 5p per kwh. I haven't investigated this yet but understand it's not coming in force until 2011. 5p though! 5 miserable pence but it's better that nothing, or is it ?

That must be wrong. You can already sell at more than that. Even the payments for your own use of grid is more than that (we dont bother cos the small amount we make & the increased costs dont add up). The new FIT's (feed in tariffs) were expected to be 40p ish per unit.

I think the 5p is for existing installs only.

5p per kwh is equal to the current ROC, which is £50 per mwh. I'm guessing its replacing ROC's.
edit:
ROC's can be gained on top of what you sell to the electricity company. Most companies however give you a better rate if you sign over the ROC's to them.
