A basket load of mushrooms

At last... a real haul of mushrooms. Went out on Wednesday and came home with this...

Puff balls (Lycoperdon pedicellatum), Shaggy Ink-caps (Coprinus comatus), Saffron Milk-caps (Lactarius deliciousus), a few Deceivers (Laccaria amethystea), a shed load of Oyster Mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus), a couple of Bay Boletes (Boletus badius), one Cep (Boletus edulis), Chicken-of-the-Woods (Laetiporus sulphureus), a couple of Chanterelles (Cantharellus cibarius) and some Fairy Rings (Marasmius oreades).

I would advise anyone that knows a tree that has Oyster mushrooms on it to check it out. The ones in the picture came from one single tree and I only took about 1/3rd of what was there. Non of these were there at the weekend, so it shows how fast they grow.

Chicken-of-the-Woods

I could have picked much more Chicken-of-the-Woods, but I am not that keen on it and just picked enough for a bit of experimental cooking. This was in such a public place that I suspect it will be gone by the end of the weekend.

I also noticed that one of my Horn of Plenty (Craterellus cornucopioides) pathes is starting to fruit again Very Happy. However, will they survive this current spell of cold weather? I have a feeling that it could be the end of it Crying or Very sad.

What's the one on the far right - looks like something that's popped up in our garden.

Do you mean these?...

If so then they are Fair Ring Champignon (Marasmius oreades)

However, be careful, there is a very poisonous species (Clitocybe dealbata)

that looks similar (although obvious when you know a true Fairy Ring) and grows to a similar size and habit.

Thanks - They've come up in the flower bed where we dumped some old bought in compost. Had a clear slimey film over the cap but otherwise looked very similar.
Truffle

wow. nice collection Wink

The seaosns going over, here in the peaks. Just found blewitts, one puffball, a couple of hedgehogs and a solitary chanterelle. Bare pickings.

Good finds Pete, makes me hungry!

Nice haul Pete - must try to get into the Forest at the weekend. Hope these frosts don't scupper things...
Jamanda

We've got loads of those mushrooms round at the moment. And Sean says he saw lots of other stuff too, so I'll try and get out tomorrow evening.
bingo

Nice one Pete.

I found a wood today which I think probably has Truffles in it.

I had a good rummage round but obviously found nothing, I need a dog.

Can I borrow yours? Rolling Eyes Laughing

It's chalk, old and has lots of oak. Wink

I must admit that I have been a bit slack oon the truffle hunting front. We could check it out with Tom, although I have some woods that I think could be interesting, just haven't looked yet.

PS - this cold weather/frost is bad Crying or Very sad
bingo

My prediction was right. Sad

I think next year will be a good year. Very Happy

If there's any continuity in the pattern.
Truffle

Bingo, where are the woods? I'll check our records to see if there have been any (reported) finds there...
Theres also a species of winter truffle in the UK (Tuber brumale) so you can keep looking all winter Very Happy
