A bit of spam user nobblingI have implemented a change that should be unnoticable. If users join but do not post at all, then their web sites links in their profile will not show up.
We have had some suspicious users joining already, for example one with a web site that appears to be a mortgage scam, did not come up properly in Firefox for me to be sure, but this is the sort of link that if you open in an unpatched internet explorer, might well try to install scumware on your system 
I think we can all live happier without this sort of thing.

Is there anything a user of the site can do? Should this be added to the simple IT userguide thingy?

I think this one is up to admins/mods and techy staff to be looking after people on.

I'm thinking along the lines of other sites. Once my mum get's used to one site there may be no stopping her.

As an aside we have another suspected spam lamer, just signed up  This time a car search site. I could not spot this because the hack, and so have just hacked the hack so that admins on the board can see the links.
we may want to institute a quick ban policy of the b*&rs,

Probably should, I don't think in these couple of cases, the chances of them being legit are much better than lottery odds Just want to be sure we give maximum benefit of doubt.

Just as a point of curiosity this issue seems to have gone away
Unless people are nobbling when i'm not looking.
