a cape in a flash - I hope help neededOk so youngest has said as he is ready for bed that he needs to dress up for school on Friday. Fine, all he needs is dark trousers (yep got) dark top (yep got) and a cape with a hood and patches on it
Ok no problem so I need to make a cape with hood but
a) I have no material here in the rented cottage although lucky I do have my sowing machine
b) I am going away with work tomorrow after lunch.
So tomorrow morning I can dash to the sowing shop in town and get some material (hopefully dark and cheap) anyone got an easy way of making a childs cape with a hood!!!
Ah the joys.

Thats nothing todays school letter was saying that the children have been playing a game with rude / sexual connotations and as parents could we encourage the children to stop.
You should have heard him explaining to us how the game worked

Advice for quick cape:
Don't go to a sewing shop, go to a Charity shop and buy an old skirt in a dark colour.
Split it down the seam.
Re-hem open seam.
Fasten round neck with a pin or ties made from bootlaces.

yep, buy a dark hoodie as well, cut off the hood, sew it onto the skirt on the inside of the 'top' edge and bob's your uncle!

hoods are pretty easy.
The simplest needs one rectangle of fabric.
To get the right size, fold it in half across the middle so it makes a double square. Put it over the head with the fold on the top of the head and fabric hanging down each side.
Make sure you can pin the edges together down the back of the head and the front edges should still be level with the end of the nose at the front.
Sew up down the back seam where it is pinned.
Now if you want to attach it to the cloak:
Pin round the bottom of the hood to the neck edge of the cloak.
You can either shape the front edges round the face by cutting them to curve out from the neck of the cloak or you can gather the bottom edges of the hood into the neck of the cloak.
Alternately, you can just keep them separate:
Shape the front edge of the hood round the face, so when it it lying down flat the top fold is longer than the bottom (neck) edge.
Attach ties of some sort to the bottom front corners.

If he doesn't tell him you'll dye it red and he'll have to go to school wearing it and carrying a nice wicker basket. On second thoughts maybe not.
