a crafts-only to do list for the day

having managed to sleep for 12 hours straight after getting back from Martin's meat meat, I'm contemplating a busy day of craftwork.

Today, I plan to:
Make a pair of thigh high red woollen stockings (hooray for sock machines)
Make a white linen Roman tunic
Make a green wool Roman palla
Make half a dozen plague rats
Boil up some conker husks and see what colour they dye
Dye some fibre for spinning in a mix of greens and browns
Order some more fibre and some spinning wheel parts

Gareth has been enlisted to help and is down to do some tablet weaving and make a pair of Roman shoes.

That little lot should keep me out of mischief today I think

Frewen Feltmaker

Make Christmas "folk heart strings"
Find some way of trimming Christmas stockings in same theme
Card some wool for stuffing
Make two more Christmas goose birdy ornaments
Sew half a dozen little hearts and stuff with lavender for dammit dolls.

Good thread Sally Cool

I have got the metal plate with a hole in it....ta daaaa!!!!

This afternoon's job with son#1 is mark the frame pieces for a friend to cut and weld this evening, and build a dry brick pillar supporting the flue where it exits the kiln.
Then start sealing all the joints.
Hopefully the tile cutter for floor tiles with diamond tipped blade will be OK to trim the small ex kiln shelf that will be a flue damper.
I need to get the pots biscuited to be ready for the saltfiring in the first half of next month Shocked

1. Practice carding!!!

I've finally got hold of a pretty little second-hand Wheel (Ashford Traditional), a pair of hand carders and a lazy kate, along with a couple of bags of fibre!!! All the wood was really thirsty so it's had a couple of coats of beeswax polish (homemade Smile ) and looks really nice now.

2. Sew in loose ends and block and press a window panel I've just crocheted for my kitchen.

Incidentally Sally, if any of those plague rats are for the order I placed a couple of days ago, I'm not in a huge hurry Smile

Good idea, this thread.

Write up pattern
Lemon curd
Bottle damsons (those are sort of craft!)

Tons of routine stuff to do though, and I'm feeling wobbly!

Good luck tomorrow, LW. And congrats on the sleep, Sally!

oh drat and botheration, I've just knocked my sewing machine off the table and its no longer a happy thing Sad fortunately my old machine still just about works and has just justified my inability to throw it away, but I'm soooooo cross with myself.
Gareth is tinkering with it, but its not looking promising Sad

Not yet Laughing I'm off to collect some buddlea tomorrow though. I'll have a go at most woods, some are really surprising. I should imagine lilac is very sinewy and tough, ideal for needles.

By the way I've finally got a battery for my measuring doodah so have measured the hooks. They are on their way with the boxes

This morning I beachcombed a small bag of "interesting articles" which may become a mobile or summat - does that count? I also failed to buy some yarn to knit a cardigan (which was fortuitous really, because I forgot to pay and display in the car park and now have a £25 fine to pay Sad )

i have some chunks of rhododendron and apple here if you want some. cut a few days ago. if you advise me how to pick some bits for you, i'll chuck them in the car
Bodrighy

Rhododendron I've not tried but have heard it can have a lovely grain. Apple, any fruit wood is gorgeous. Any wood from roughly 1" dia upwards I can use. Smaller stuff for bobbins, hooks etc, larger for other things. If it's just been cut I'll need to paint the ends as it will crack and split otherwise.

Short answer....OOh yes please thanks Laughing

i'll grab some for you

Brick pillar built, bag walls (to direct flames) almost built- I need to find the face mask as trimming bricks is a dusty hacksaw job. At least I have the hacksaw Laughing
Space cleared around the kiln AND tile cutter found.

Progress!! Very Happy
