A rotten day.When I went to feed the ducks this morning I found my lovely cockerel (who shares with them) dead on the floor of their house. He'd lost his voice on Saturday and I'd been giving him Baytril since Monday. Seemed to be picking up but no.
Can't believe how upset I am. He was so handsome.

He was about two and a half: one of my first birds and a real charmer.
Here he is this summer in one of his favourite places, near the stream.

Who are you offering? 
I'll be looking for a new cockerel and 2-3 hens in the spring, although sooner would be possible too. A table breed, I think.
And Tahir: he was fantastic. Really good-looking. He'd just recovered from moulting and had lovely gold-edged head and cape feathers when he died.
Who's going to tell me when the postman's coming now?

I need to downsize my flock, I've gone a bit barmy this year on the rare breeds. I tried counting them the other day and when I got to 30 I gave up, that doesnt count the ducks either  .
