a veg plot to fillNow that OH is 'working from home' and has more time, we have decided to plant up the derelict veg plot.
We have strimmed down the undergrowth, which will be weedkilled tomorrow, and rotovated after the weekend. Then landscape fabric will go down and we will plant through this in an attempt to keep the whole thing weed free (a feat we have never managed before which is why its derelict)
We like sweetcorn, garlic, broccoli, but I needeasy veg ideas of veg that we will actually eat.
Nothing like Jerusalem artichokes, which I wouldnt know what to do with them....Bearing in mind that time is moving on.......

Broad beans, runner beans, they work nicely planted with the corn.
Brassicas? perpetual spinach? carrots?

What veg do you eat?
Nows the time to get sowing.....
What week killer have you used, how long before you can plant (some take up to 6 months)

We cant grow carrots or any root things in the soil as we have exytremely shillety soil (full of sharp slate shards), we'd need to plant these in tubs or tyres. Broad beans we'd like a couple of rows. Tried peas 2 years ago - think its too windy where we are - they never really did anything.
We like beetroot, all sorts of oniony things...
we only really eat spinach in a salad. Anything that we could freeze would be a good idea. Sweetcorn does really well for us here (if we can get the kids to leave it alone ) although it does attract earwigs....
