Aaggh, Freeview is useless! My Freeview reception quality has degenerated from annoyingly unreliable sometimes to virtually unusabubble.
My aerial is pointing to Sutton Coldfield, and the Beeb channels are mostly OK (but not always), whereas the others have progressively worsened. C4 and ITV are effectively off-air for me at the moment and have been for days.
I'm aware the non-Been MUXes don't transmit at full power apparently, and I wish they'd hurry up and sort it out! Does anyone know if this Wednesday's national re-tune will see any power output increases at all?
I'll need to do more fiddling to be sure but as far as I currently know there's nowt wrong with my gear or cabling or aerial. I've already got an 11dB amp in place, and if I put a more powerful one in to fix C4 et al it overdrives the Beeb channels. It's very annoying!
Anyone any suggestions?
As of today I'm seeing poor(er) reception across all channels, although that happens sometimes - atmospheric conditions I suppose.

Have you tried a factory reset on your Freeview box and then reinstalling the channels? Our Philips box got progressively worse following the mucking around with the Welsh transmitters on September 16th until I forced it to start from scratch - I think the previous settings were stored in a flash memory, and even though the box was aware of the new signals, it was resolutely trying to cling to the channels that it had been using for the past couple of years.

Get rid of the TV- I've gone from freebiew reception being a daily annoyance to blissful ignorance.
Other than that they were saying on the radio yesterday that everyones channel lists will need retuning and you're best doing it every three months anyway. We did it more like every three weeks.

Ditto, except we've had no TV since we came here (7 years ago). We watch DVDs when we want to or read, crafts, go outside...

I find there's not much room for one in a cardboard box.

I've got several sizes: you can choose! Or have two and knock them together... Perhaps even pile some up for a mutli-storey residence... And how about plastic fruit punnets for a conservatory?

Thank you but as half the room I am sat in is filled with cardboard boxes, I think I'm good.

Bah, travel-orientated packaging, the pair of you

Not as yet - will give that a whirl later.
I did tell the DVD recorder to rescan last night and it promptly lost all its digital channels and refused to re-find them. Not annoying at all. Rescanned again earlier this morning and it has found the Beeb ones plus some others, but not ITV or C4. More fiddling later.
When it is working the signal coming in the wall appears good. But without lugging a UHF meter up to the roof one can't be sure. And that thought does little to entice me.
*flaps arms about and makes chook sound effects at the very thought*

Many mux are currently being run well below strength because of engineering works needed for digital switchover, try rescan tomorrow, I suspect that all mux will be (temporarily) boosted for the mass re-tune.

Remember when they used to tell us how much easier and better digital would be than analogue?

Sadly, as DAB & MP3 have already proved, it's all about more, not better.

Try Sky Plus. It is annoyingly very good.

Apparently so, unfortunately I don't have money, nor time, to burn though.

All Freeview boxes had to be retuned as of noon yesterday to improve reception, prepare for HD transmissions, and provide Channel Five to more areas.
