Alternatives to bought cat food?Is anybody here feeding their cats anything other than cat food? I keep feeling guilty at the processed nature of it all, but, unlike the dog, the kitten isn't all that keen on leftover pasta with tomato sauce and I daresay it wouldn't exactly help her grow up big and strong either!
Cat food is so wonderfully convenient.....

Mice ?
I know that sounds flippant, but mine have mostly been hunters that killed and ate their prey, with cat food / biscuit as a supplement
Some cats like leftover porridge.

We fed our dogs and cats for several years (before we left the UK) on chicken necks. They are an excellent food for them, we bought them in 10 kilo boxes and bagged them up into day sized portions and froze them. They loved them! It cost us about 5 quid a week to feed 3 large dogs and five cats. They had clean teeth, no bad breath, healthy nearly odourless 'poos', and were in the best of health. On moving here, we had to use commercial dog and cat food for the first year before we were able to source a similar food. During that time two dogs developed a number of tumours, and their health and overall well being was low. Now we feed them on a mix of chicken wings and goose 'frames', and they are healthy and bouncing again!

Yes, I think I am going to go down the raw food diet for her, even though it's a pain. She's already caught two mice and two baby birds but the good news is that she ate the lot! My main problem is the lack of electricity at home. Although I do have freezer storage space at my ex's, it's about eight miles away. Oh well, daresay I'll come up with a cunning plan for an off grid freezer! Quick post in Energy, Building and whatever it's called, and I daresay RichardW or Vegplot will have a solution in no time!
