Amethyst deceiversIs it possible (as the name suggests) to mix them up with something else and end up dead?

Would be very hard to confuse them with something nasty I would say but if you aint sure then don't scoff 'em.

The worst one that is likely is Laccaria amethystea var. lilacina. It is about the same size and colour but the gills are brown not purple. It grows in the same places. Not particularly poisonous but probably contains at least some muscarine.

Thanks - maybe Sean could post a picture - (they are in the DS bag hanging by the dog's lead). But I'm pretty confident.

Inocybe geophylla var. lilacina
I found this fella in locations where you might expect amethyst deceivers. (broad leaved woodland) tho ime deveivers seem more common under beech. however I remember the first time i found this inocybe, on a very unproductive foray - so I was quite excited to find what I thought was an amethyst deceiver. luckily the pronounced umbo and spore print soon set me straight and also I've since noticed that where you find 1 amethyst deceiver you can expect to find more, whereas the inocybe is decidedly solitary.
