An idea

We have narrowboat that we fitted out and is not selling as things have slowed down quite a lot recently. We have thought of hiring it out etc.

I have thought of aiming it also at the wedding/honeymoon market. It is a very high spec boat with an expensive classy fit out. I am thinking along the lines of a honeymoon package, to include bubbly on arrival and a food hamper from the local farm shop already on board.

Would anyone or do you know anyone who would do do this sort of thing?

You can see the boat on our website under the boatbuilding page. we have a gallery of photos.

You ideas and thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers Pea

There are loads of wedding websites out there that specialise in adverts for this kind of thing - some of them allow you to put a basic entry in for free and some of them start at something like £25 for a basic ad.

I'll look out some that we advertise lighting and pyro on tomorrow, and PM you.

That's a lovely idea, but don't limit yourself to just that, I assume that family holidays would be offered as well.

Think how you could market it as well, stress free, low carbon footprint, local scenery etc.

I'm interested anyway! Very Happy

Don't forget to provide a sign for them to put on the towpath. "If the barge is rockin', don't come knockin'"

When we built the boat we aimed it a 2 berth long term cruising with the occasional guest. We have thought about changing the front around a bit to accomodate 4 people but, that will be done over the next winter.

The wedding thing was just another avenue, we already have a day boat we hire, the general comment from customers is that its the best day boat in the area, which is FAB.

Actually the more i think about it, the better it gets. Almost a return to the original meaning of the word 'honeymoon' (don't forget the mead of course!)

You could market it as a completely self sufficient luxury experience where the honeymoon couple have complete privacy and time together

we like romantic weekends and we like boats... Very Happy

I bet it would also work advert wise in somewhere like the Saga magazine. An older couple, the +50s market (without kids) would like it for a break as well.

You'd need to stress that locks etc are easy to deal with by a couple of that age group. Or state fitness level required.

Hell yeah, sounds like a fabulous idea!

My brother works part time for some friends who run courses in West London. They do some sort of river boat competency training, as some countries in Europe require proof of competency for anyone hiring a boat for holidays.

Don't know all the details, but may be another area to research.

Thanks LynnA, Yes you are required to have a helmsman certification I think for Euorpean boat hire. John and I have done this training in order to make sure our day hire customers are shown correctly. We have thought about that for extra use for our day boat.

Keep the ideas comming Very Happy
