And it gets worse (ebay)

On another forum (yes, there are others) I read :

Quote:
I just listed something on ebay, and they politely tell me that PayPal might hold any payments I am owed (for that item) until positive feedback has been left or no dispute has been opened for upto 21 days.

Just had a look through the ebay faqs and can't find any reference to this policy, certainly havent had anything similar when I've listed stuff recently. Any remote possibility that its a rule that applies to people with poor feedback or some other possible reason for thinking the transaction may not complete? Might list some more stuff in a week or two, will take careful note of whether I get any unusual messages

aha, found it! http://answercenter.ebay.com/thread.jspa?threadID=900136459&tstart=4&mod=1211697947730

it is as suspected, for percieved 'high risk' sellers, so, if you are a normal seller who takes care to give good service, there should be no reason to see one of those messages

Seems like someone else is having a go at the "home spit market".
Copy of the one Hugh used on River Cottage ?
Looks very well made and finished.
Spit appears to be mild steel (not food safe) and nothing to lock the spit.

I see. Looking at those conditions implies that ebay is discouraging new sellers and infrequent sellers? Is ebay becoming less of an auction and more of a bazaar?
RichardW

I think the "theme" is to make it safer for buyers cos without them feeling safe to buy its game over. Mind you if sellers dont feel safe to sell its also game over.

I wonder if a high up employee of eBay has had their fingers burnt in a purchase?
Or perhapse we are just getting caught up in the "over the pond" problems which is were eBay (& most of its rules) comes from.

Ebay's not what it used to be. I still use it from time to time. I haven't seen the rule mentioned by MarkS. Ebay is now a game of stamina. A typical experience when looking for actual plants rather than seeds/bulbs/cuttings or vice versa is whether the posting is for a plant or something else. A sin of vagueness.

I prefer to buy from those who have done their own photos and have a decent description that turn out to be what it 'says on the tin'.
