Another dumb diy questionBut on the other hand is any question dumb when there are load of possible answers?
I have bought a load of kitchen wall units, some have a thin hardboard back with slots cut out for blum brackets:
http://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/Products/Cabinet_Hardware/Cabinet_Fixings/564/Blum_Wall_Cabinet_Mounting/
those have gone up okay. Some cabinets though have a solid chipboard veneers back and no fixing mechanism at all.
They are going to be hung both on a stud partition wall that has a noggin at the right height for a fixing and on a real wall.
So what is the most sensible way to fit the things, preferably something a little adjustable?
I'm rather tempted just to get more Blum fittings and to hell with the fact that these units are like that at the back as they have glass doors and are thus meant to be cosmetically perfect.

if it were me, I'd fix a stout batten to the wall where you want the bottom of the cupboards to be. This means you can hold them up to the wall easily to get the screws in exactly the right position, and all the cupboards will be perfectly square and lined up. When you're done you can remove the batten.
You could drill through and screw direct into the wall, and then use a screw cap if you want to hide the heads.

Good advice, worked pretty well. Only catch being it took 4 goes to get a screw hole in a position where it did not hit a nail

If as I suspect there are now some unsightly holes in your white melamine cupboard backs, you will find that Decorator's Caulk will fill the holes near-invisibly.

They are pretty small holes. I am not that much of a perfectionist

It's only about two quid for a whacking great tube.
