another dumb patenthttp://fosspatents.blogspot.com/2011/12/apple-wins-itc-ruling-of-narrow.html
Ever since I got a phone with a screen I wonder a little about how useless they were in some respects, in terms of not looking at any bit of text for anything that could be put in the context of other applications.
It's a phone ffs anything that looks like a phone number format should obviously link to making a phone call

Apple Corporation have demonstrated (to me at least), that successful companies may start off "cool" but invariably morph into "evil".
(IMHO intellectual property is theft - like Apple hate Android 'cos it stole the ideas that it stole from Xerox and the University of California.)

Even on downsizer, when someone posts something, the code looks at what they posted and tries to do links with it, e.g. even if it looks a bit like a web address then make it a web address. What's the difference between that and phone numbers? or are we ourselves breaking a patent

Unfortunately the patent system is broken and it doesn't look like it is going to be fixed anytime soon
One of the important things about patents is you are only meant to be able to patent non obvious solutions to things but these days that seems to be ignored
this is bad for software and even worse for medicine, apparently soon the US patent system may allow patents owners to sue doctors who use associations between blood tests and drug dosage when making treatment suggestions even if they don't know they have been patented but have read about it in the literature
