Another electricity tripping questionI was reminded of this by another thread but I didn't want to hijack the thread.
We have halogen spotlights in the kitchen. When they go they seem to be prone to tripping out the RCD at the consumer unit. As I gradually change over from halogen to LED the problem is going away but is there any reason that a halogen blowing might trip an RCD?

yep,as they fail current in is not equal to current out so tripping the rcd iirc

Is that specific to halogens or are other types of bulbs prone to the same thing?

some coil types seem to trip rcd units
im not quite sure why but i suspect tis something to do with ionising metal vapour as the filament melts

I would guess that some current manages to get to the metal cap when it blows & if that is earthed its causing the trip.
