Anthracite - no longer availableOur wood supply has run out and I've been waiting for over a week for a order of anthracite from the coal merchants. I rang this morning to chase it up and they say they can only source Russian anthracite at double last year's price.
Anyone else had a similar experience?

according to my brother who sources coal for power stations (and got most excited when one business meeting was down a coal mine) there are two mines opening up in the Neath valley and welsh coal is antracite I think so won't solve your immediate problem but in the longer term there should be some available...

Burning anthracite at the minute at night rather than wood as it powers the C.H. better---noticed a price hike last load but not too bad.

We hadn't bought it for a couple of years, when it was about £2.50 a bag - now it's nearly £7

There's an interresting article in the current edition of Steam Railway, basically it seems that the house coal market is reaching critical volume & may not be with us for much longer

As in not enough people burning coal fires, so it's not worth supplying any more ?
I've just re-thought use of my other stoves, both of which are multi-fuel and small, so coal would be ideal.

Local outlets are selling 10kg bags for as much as £5.99 which is taking the Michael. Can't get Welsh coal in Wales for love nor money at the moment. I don't want to burn if I can possibly help it but don't have a great deal of choice in the matter.

Anthracite I bought last month was £7 for a 25kg. bag a biggish price hike---- house coal was cheaper---you can get Welsh coal round here-----or you could last month.

You could try 'Homefire' we sell it and friends of our told us that is burns really hot and is as large as housecoal. They named it radioactive coal
We ask all our customer to tell us what they think about the coal products we have as we dont burn it, only wood.
The prices are always higher in the winter, our local merchant who is supplied by Doormill has gone up by around 60%.
Would suggest that try to by in the summer and store for the winter, it does save money.

We found homefire left a lot of ash, much more than Anthracite. However, it's the only one on offer at the moment so we may have no choice. Burning house coal at the moment which I'm not keen on at all.

Homefire was developed to burn well on an open fire, with 'flames', so it felt a bit like real coal. Most smokeless burns best in a stove and doesn't really mimic coal when used on an open fire, looks a bit dull. I don't know how much it costs now but Homefire used to be quite a bit more expensive than other smokeless fuels. I think it's a bit of a waste to use it on a stove when there are cheaper alternatives...but then I'm a cheapskate

I really need to sort of a supply of wood. Owning a woodland would be nice but prices have doubled in the last 5 years.
