Anyone fancy VBulletin?

Was just looking at this thread:

http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=6551&page=1&pp=10

and I would concede the point that VBulletin is "better" in general, I would also concede the site can afford $160.

Personally though I think VBulletin has too many bells and whistles for a community like ours that is not shall we say at the cutting edge of I.T. Literacy.

This is the one I like:

http://www.infopop.com/

Although there's nothing wrong with phpBB either

Must admit that for me VBulletin and PhpBB are the top dogs. with plenty of user support for hacks.

Do we need to change? We've put a lot of work into this already.

The only feature that I like on infopop (or at least empegbbs's implementation of it) is the way you can condense and expand sections on the index page

Absolutely no need, and in fact I think we should stick with phpBB.

I just thought that some of the pro VBB arguments do hold merit, and seeing as we are not forced to take the free option were worth airing.

Only vaguely related...there was a story on Google news (I have to say that so you know I don't read PC World daily Very Happy ) from PC World (US I fink) that phpBB sites were being targetted through Google by a virus whose name eludes me but may be santy or sanity.

Was that the thing that was being fixed the other day that you mentioned Jema? I can try to find the story again if you want though I'm sure it's not going to be exactly obscure.

It wasn't the fix the other day, but would have been the fix from some days before that! All big name products on the net are subject to the idiotic attentions of hackers, and hence need to be kept up to date.

VBB is meant to be more secure. But that is not set in stone. It maybe vulnerabiies will be found there as well.
