Anyone in Lincolnshire?

And do you like it?

I'm not really a newbie - but have been away for quite a while.

Partner and I are planning move out of Manchester, where we grow our own fruit and veg on two allotments, to somewhere (in England) we can afford big enough garden/bit of land to carry on doing the same. Looking particularly at Lincolnshire because it seems relatively affordable and also is nearer my family in Cambridgeshire.

But we don't know the area at all. So I'm seeing if there is anyone on here that would be happy to chat about what places are like, any events, farmers' markets, things, places we might visit when doing recce trips over there.

We're 52 and 60 respectively and so don't want to be somewhere very remote but within not too many miles of a train line - so have been thinking of villages around Lincoln or perhaps near Sleaford. We looked at one house near Horncastle which looked like a nice place, but less good for transport links.

Any views/experience etc, good or bad, very welcome. Also any info, views as to what the area would be like for young family living on benefits - schools, community, housing etc - as extra complication for us is daughter and partner with baby and second baby on the way, needing lots of support - we hope that if we move, we might persuade them to move as well - so we can carry on giving practical support - and also perhaps to give them a chance of trying life somewhere other than very deprived areas of Manchester.

I grew up in rural Cambridgeshire, so am not coming to this with rosy-tinted view of countryside - I know there are poverty and problems in rural areas as everywhere - but I know the whole family would benefit from a bit more space and fresh air, veg and chickens in garden etc etc.

Thanks - and hello again to everyone.

I used to house-share with a chap from Lincolnshire... he said it had a hill.

And was, rather than had.

There's a hill north of grantham in the grounds of Belton House. I know because i've walked up it. VM

I know there are some very slightly taller, pretty bits - wolds, they're called, aren't they? However, they seem to be furthest from any rail links! madcat

Lincolnshire is fine but I would follow the railway lines and make sure you have an option other than relying on a car.
Good Luck

Yes, that's kind of how I've been thinking - thanks!
