Anyone know about shrink-wrappers?Someone has suggested that I use a shrink-wrapper to seal my Christmas hampers - that is boxes and baskets of goods which are open-topped, rather than having lids. In the past I have used plastic wrap which I have then shrunk using one of those paint-stripping heat guns. It has the desired effect but the plastic tears easily, you need to sticky-tape the underside which doesn't look too nice and is very labour intensive. For those reasons I haven't developed the hamper business to its full potential, but would like to do so now. I'm not about to go and see my nearest competitor and ask him how he does it and don't want to spend a fortune on something that isn't going to do the job properly. Does anyone here use them?

Yes and no, I have one but I don't use it any more. Bought it on ebay for about £300. It takes a bit of practise to get the settings & timings right but when you do it's quick a quick way of doing it the job.

Thanks Rob. Why don't you use it?
I've seen some online video demos of them but they were with square boxes. I'm wondering how effective it would be with something more bumpy.

It's like this one on ebay. I got it for packaging wool up but then I changed the way I got it packed from the processors so it's kind of obsolete now, keep thinking it will come in for something but I haven't thought of anything yet
It depends wether you've got something that might pierce the film afterwards, if not it's just a case of not leaving it in too long. I think you can get thicker films for more heavy duty applications but if ever I've used it for anything like that I've put it through twice.

Yep, not exactly easy to store

Yes. We have 2 at work for wrapping pallet loads. More stretch wrappers than shrink (heat) wrappers.

If you're worried about piercing you could put a tiny foam hat on sharp bits.
If you see what I mean.

That would be back to being labour intensive though.
