Anyone used 'magento' shopping cart softwarehas anyone used this shopping cart software before or know anything about whether it really is better than oscommerce etc?http://www.magentocommerce.com/ Had it suggested to me as a possible alternative to the oscommerce I currently use, and I hadnt heard of it before |

Your oscommerce site seemed fine to me, so I wonder why consider change unless you know of some real benefit to an alternative? | ||

Its probably more for one of the new sites I have planned- one that is going to stock traditional raw materials for textile crafts, also without installing endless modifications to oscommerce, which I'm not entirely confident in doing as it involves more fiddling with the code than I feel up to, I can't do things like issue gift vouchers, offer free postage for certain size orders, bulk discounts and that sort of thing. Also, it says it will run several different shops off the same database, which might work well for the mini sites I now have (and still havent polished up  ) for the plague rats, Scots bonnets and so on.
Might download it this evening and just see if I can get it to stick to one of the sites

That's true, tweaking ecommerce is not for the fainthearted , even if you know php. | ||

I mananged a couple of very very minor tweaks when I set mine up, and was very concious of how I had absolutely no idea what I was actually doing beyond following a set of instructions to find this, replace that etc.
Will report back if I manage to get this new thing to do anything more than glare at me when I download it this evening |

hmm, had a bit of a play with it this morning but had to admit defeat, I just don't know enough about databases to risk mucking about with it all

Had a go at uploading it to one of the new sites a while ago, and even with Richard helping me decipher the instructions I couldnt make it work. I think I must accept I'm a bit out of my depth installing this sort of thing, I'm happy enough to fiddle with it all once its there, but I don't speak the necessary language to get it all installed happily
