anyone want a go with ox-fibre?My youngest one, a brown swiss called Bo if you've missed this grew a big woolly coat over winter - he's now lost the long outer waterproof coat which left a very fine soft golden curly layer of down type stuff underneath, which he's now shedding aswell. It's lovely! I've just been brushing it out but maybe someone would like a go at spinning it or whatever voodoo you fibretypes get up to?
I'm thinking a lovely oxling-fibre hat would be rather fetching

would love to test drive it for you- if it proves good, there is a healthy niche market for ox down, you might find it quite lucrative to save it and process it.

send me over a couple of ounces and I'll wash, card and spin it and will report back for you on how it handles

Yes - all in - lowering the tone of the neighbourhood as I type
I still have a ton of mould to scrub from various surfaces, I just spent 3 days non stop washing carpets that are now coloured instead of grey...... and have found out that oven cleaner is the only thing that gets rid of 15 years worth of grime from door handles
Mrs F would be proud of me !
Now we have to start looking at replacing the central heating and rewiring - but at least we are sanitary !
Treacle had a rotovirus during the move. The night before we went she was puking into her bed in the eary hours - and the night we got in she gave us a repeat performance with an encore of a poo explosion

frewen, how utterly delightful!?
as for felting, not sure how much we're going to get - I'm thinking just a few handfuls as he's moulted most already before i've caught on

No problem but it might be quite nice to felt in with other fibre for texture and colour?
Sally is your best bet though - I am sure it will spin better than felt

I believe yak fibre is very highly prized. Hello, Frewen - glad your in, and hope Treacle is feeling better, now.

this would be a bit different to yak as he's only shorthaired, but maybe we just found a use for rob's Tiny the Highland after all...

Yak fibre is ideal for adding to plaster. I buy bundles of the stuff at £10 a kilo which, I believe, comes from Russia.

I think you would need to carrott human hair to get it to felt and that needs mercury salts and strong acid and generally drives you bonkers
