Anything likely this weekend?

Hiya. Newbie to these forums, but have been lurking for a while now.

I noticed the weather report says this week is going to be wet with rain and added moisture. Pretty much the whole week. Does anyone think we're too late for the shrooming now or is this weekend likely to be productive if I go out foraging with wellies and a brolly?

Personally, and I don't know much, but I think it's too wet at the moment. You can have a go and enjoy yourself, but a large boat may be better than wellies and brolly.

Does depend on what part of the country you're in, too.

True, should have mentioned I am London way and was thinking of hitting the New Forest.

Still loads of Wood Blewits down this way at the moment. I think that the only edible mushrooms that you are likely to find are Wood Blewits and maybe Feild Blewits (they are not as common as the wood type), Oyster mushrooms and Shaggy Parasols - for some reason these are still about too.

I got another load of Wood Blewits while out with the dog this morning. As for all the rain - they do tend to soak up water if it's wet, but then they dry up quickly too, especially if it's windy like it has been. There are also so many about that you can find quite a number in sheltered spots, e.g. under a big tree, down wind of a wall etc. that are still dry and in perfect condition.

PS - it is hard finding Blewits in the New Forest, however, I did find some last weekend (see earlier post). I think that in general the soil is too acidic for them.
