Aphids damage?
Is this aphid or sap sucker damage? This is a currant bush in the back. The young gean in the front has aphid damage on all the young leaves too |

infection, maybe with an insect vector making entry points or carrying the agent?
what ever it is get rid of the affected bits, give them a wash(2 birds one set of soapy water ie remove insects and remove any honeydew etc) if it spreads get ruthless, tis sad to cull stuff, but it protects the rest |

That symptom would be called a gall, or perhaps a blister gall. Reminds me of Red blister mites in pear.
Googled red blister gall current and found that you're right about it being aphids (most likely) https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=491 Seems as though you could expect to find the culprits below the blisters |

I clear off the affected leaves..ends up as tip pruning. |

Currant blister aphids are the cause; looks unsightly, but the doesn't affect the plant or its fruiting very much. Remove the aphids on the leaf undersides with water sprays. It's very common, but over the many years I've grown currants, has little effect on the fruit production.

At present helping on my son's allotment in Wales and they have it even worse...but hadn't been picking off any affected leaves. |
