Artist's Statement in just 100 words! Tricky.

I've been asked for one for the show in Treberfydd House next month.

With so few words, it's quite tight.

What would you want to read/know about an artist and what would you consider unimportant.

I've currently squashed my standard, short version CV down to 200 words but struggling to lose more.

Can you share what you've got and let us prune?

If you promise not to laugh, then yes Smile

I suspect a statement should be more 'arty' than a CV but I prefer my work to do the talking, not me. I find some artist's statements positively nauseating.

ETA - yep, online delving suggests it definitely need to be more of an "I work like this because ...." statement, not a CV.

This is where I'm at now Jamanda.

(what I do)I’m a full time artist/printmaker, specialising in the reduction method of linocutting. I produce limited editions (normally no more than 30 prints in an edition) of original prints, working from my studio overlooking the Ogwen Valley in North Wales.

(how I do it)I use a ‘nipping’ press for my smaller work and oversize prints are meticulously hand burnished. I produce some monochrome work but many prints use between 5 and 12 individual colours.

(Why do I do it) ...stuck on this one at the moment

OK I'll shove it to something with a word count and get back to you.
jamanda

Gosh! Only 17 words to spare!
dpack

that you enjoy doing what you do
that you show the world you see
that they are part of those processes
sean

These are the current ones at The Plough if that's any help.

I'll try to have a think.
dpack

i enjoy doing what i do to show the world, by seeing you are part of that process

less than seventeen words and might fit somewhere
Laughing

i spose it depends whether you want to keep it to facts about method or about the emotional input from artist and viewer
sean

What are you exhibiting? Is there a theme to the works, however loose?

(What) I’m a full time artist/printmaker, specialising in the reduction method of linocutting. I produce limited editions (up to 30 prints in an edition) of original prints, from my studio overlooking the Ogwen Valley in North Wales.

(How) I use a ‘nipping’ press for my smaller work and oversize prints are meticulously hand burnished. I produce some monochrome work but many prints use between 5 and 12 colours.

(Why) My passion is to make linocut prints acceptable as serious works of art, as expressive, adaptive, flexible and exciting as any other. My inspiration is the North Wales landscape.

(BTW - there is a typo on your web page - the last paragraph on the page about the artist says "belive")

Want to avoid the 'emotional' if possible - that's between me and my work and I really want to remain true to that. If people like and buy, of course I'm an even happier printmaker.

I don't like "max" . "Maximum" would be slightly better. earthyvirgo
