Ayr Flower ShowAyr Flower Show
Friday 8th - Sunday 10th August 2008
Plants, exhibits, show classes ranging from Novices to Master Gardeners, childrens' box gardens, flower arranging, giant veg... everything you could possible want from a flower show... including...
Ayr and District Beekeeping Association honey sales, observation hive and open hive, where members of the public can get togged up and handle the bees in the hive.
It still even has some remaining municipal displays and team classes entered by the local SWRIs.
It is run (very professionally) by a team of volunteers and is well worth supporting if you are in the area.

Haven't been to Ayr for years! Are you entering anything?

No, not this year. I once got a second for a garden in a box (but that was a loooooong time ago . I think I won 20p! ).
I love the fact that it has not sold out and become too commercial. There are some stands selling 'magic mops' or whatever the latest gimmick is, but the majority of the show is based on the show classes, plant nurseries, homemade crafts and related interest such as stickmaking, baking, winemaking and of course, apiculture.
I'll be helping the beekeepers over the weekend at some point.
