Behind the Smile: the Real Life of Bob MarleyBehind the Smile: the Real Life of Bob Marley
8:30pm - 9:30pm Tuesday BBC Radio 2 1/2
Bob Marley is one of the most recognised faces in the world and his music has travelled just as far. In this two-part profile, Brinsley Forde (who's a 6 Music presenter and has fronted top British reggae band Aswad for over 30 years) explores the identity of Robert Nesta Marley and tries to strip away the myths to get back to the extremely talented singer and songwriter. With the help of some of Marley's early childhood friends, including Bunny Wailer, Forde hears what Bob was really like as a child and teenager. There are BBC interviews from 1973-80 that have never been aired before and, of course, music that has to be played loud. Quite simply, the man never wrote a bad song.

Tough to argue that one, I think some cover versions of his stuff were better, but that is all I can say, and that in itself showcases the song writing talent.
