best/cheapest sources of black plastic sheeting ?

Where's the best/cheapest place to get thickish black plastic sheeting, suitable for covering ground on a new allotment, perhaps with a view to planting things like peas or broad beans seedlings through slits in the plastic ? Builders' merchants ? Agricultural suppliers ? What about silage pit sheeting, or is that too heavy duty ?

This would be in case there isn't time to clear and dig over the rest of the allotment by the time for sowing legumes.

Anyone tried this before, and if so, how did it work ?

I have searched the forum but can't see that anyone has asked this question before.

How much do you need?

It's about 50p a square metre on eBay.

Apologies for the length of the link - this stuff is hard wearing - I've got it down as paths.

Thanks, Nick and Behemoth. Path-grade also sounds good, as reusable.

We would need between 30 and 40 sq m of the stuff.

Check it's porous to let rain through.
