Black summer trufflesI was offered some of the above on Saturday, by a guy who said they were dug up by his dog within five miles of here. Is this likely? He did seem very genuine and I told him I was very impressed but I probably wouldn't be able to sell them on. He was after £140/kilo for them, and they didn't smell of much.
Anybody else foraging for them?

It isn't unlikely, but more correctly I think they'd have been 'summer truffles', which are somewhat less valued than 'black truffles'.

Seems over the odds to me, and if they didn't smell of much then they don't sound all that fresh. Truffle is your man here for knowing the market rate; failing that, I'll bet Wildfoodie would have an idea.

Have done, long ago. A heck of a lot of work and time without a dog or a pig!

Hello Twoscoops,
You don't say where you are but I assume it's in the Cotswolds. If so, then it is possible that they are Summer Truffles.

Paul did say they'd be harvesting this year, no idea on scale/location. He's in SA and the US too now.
