BlewitsGot a nice little load of Blewits in my lunch hour.
Odd as I went past the same spot yesterday morning. I guess that they were hidding in the leaf litter. It is also Odd that Blewits seem to be doing well this season, unlike most other Autumnal mushrooms.
Blewits and Cep risotto tonight.

Excellent haul Pete - I love Blewits
Skedone, you seem to be posting in stereo - not been eating too many / wrong type of shrooms...

I've just realised I did not post pictures of the market we saw in Barcelona that had tons of fresh wild shrooms, several stalls like this...

Loads of ceps, chanterelles, hedgehog, trompt de mort, winter chanterelles, & some I did not recognise ... anyone know what the ones at bottom right might be?

Errr... I did see some Parasols (the shaggy type) but I'm not keen on these so I left them.

Yes, I love Blewits, underrated I think. And it's always nice to find something mid-week when I'm just walking the dog. It was also nice seeing mushrooms fruit in the same spot I'd picked from last season - I'd obviously done no harm.
Skedone - so good you posted twice?

Difficult to tell from the picture, but they might be Saffron Milk-caps or maybe Caesar's mushroom (Amanita Caesarea) not found in Britain.

A good test is the smell. Blewits (both wood and field types) have a very distinctive smell - aromatic/perfumed, I think a bit like lavender. Once you've got it there is nothing quite like it. The stem is also very fibrous. Smell and texture are important and things that people often forget when trying to ID mushrooms.

The more I look at the picture the more I convince myself that they are Saffron Milk-caps. I have been told (by a Spaniard) that they are popular in that part of Spain and always displayed gills up and stems cut.

Blewitts are one of my absolute faves.... has there ever been a bad year for them? We always seem to find loads in the local patch.
Has been a bad year for giant puffballs round here too

There's a place very near to my house that is a good patch, I don't pick it though as it is PeteS's, he was kind enough to show me, I am kind enough not to pick it.
